The beach house is built on a single level on a site measuring 10 x 30 metres (33 x 98 feet) in Las Lomas del Mar, a popular beach-front development facing the Pacific Ocean. The surrounding landscape with its cliffs, rocks, sea and desert is dramatic and inspiring. The house can be approached from the west, from the sea, or from the east, the road and desert; in other words, it is open to its surroundings. In order to preserve privacy and to take advantage of the good views, the house is raised above ground level, a white planar volume over a stone base. The construction is divided into two long and apparently independent sections. The taller one contains the living areas and services, and the lower one the bedrooms and bathrooms. They are joined by an open gallery which, besides being the axis of circulation, helps to cool the house. The main space consists of a living room, dining room and kitchen organized in relation to the terrace, so that each has an ocean view. The north facade is a long volume containing a row of bedrooms with frosted windows for privacy and to allow diffuse lighting. The spatial composition of the house is structured by circular columns, and by a perforated wall which is pierced by a painterly composition of windows of different shapes and sizes.
