The 'T-nursery' by japanese practice uchida.tak architects is aptly named for the three pillars that make up the conceptual backbone of the project: timber, trusses, and trapezoids. located in a commuter city just outside of fukuoka, the children's care center is composed of repeatable modules that allow for future expansion or reduction. the walls on the periphery comprise the load bearing structure supporting 9 meter column-less spans allowing a maximum flexibility in interior program. the trusses were prefabricated and assembled on-site with only minor joinery work required, cutting down on construction time and material waste while increasing accuracy.the interior is finished in rather easily available and economic material. oriented strand board (OSB) panels cover the interior walls and roof leaving the wooden structure exposed, while darker polished wood flooring adds another layer of complexity to the color scheme. the floor-to-ceiling height measures approximately 2.2 meters at the pinnacle of the vaulted canopy which also cuts down on the material cost for the columns on the lower areas of design. ever bay contains a clerestory for natural light and a low horizontal window for views catered to its little inhabitants. the two primary rooms flank the shared toilets, office, and exterior terrace, with their own small kitchens to prepare meals without needing to venture far from the children.
