VendsysselMuseum of Art is housed in the converted former Bech’s clothing factory, builtat the end of the nineteenth century. The conversion has transformed the highlydetailed industrial building into a simple and straightforward culturalbuilding which unites the style of the past with a contemporary expression.
Vendsyssel艺术博物馆建于十九世纪末，原是Bech 服装厂的所在地。这一改建将原来布置非常详细的工业建筑转换成了一个简单明了的文化建筑，并将建筑物过去的风格与当代的形式相结合。
With alarger exhibition area and more storage facilities, it has become possible forthe first time to exhibit the permanent collection (primarily of north Jutland artists after 1945) and temporary exhibitions atthe same time. The new facilities also enable the museum to live up to modernrequirements towards lighting, indoor climate and security.

Thetextile factory lies in the centre of the town, and the changes here emphasisedthe need to make the entrance to the new museum more visible. This has beenaccomplished mainly by establishing a large glass and steel facade screen,which is visible from all areas of the square. The screen can be used as alighting element as well as to provide support for signage。

Themuseum consists of a long main building and two smaller side buildings,connected at right angles. The largest side building houses a library, an Internetcafe and a cinema, while the smaller building has been converted into a guestapartment and workshop atelier for visiting artists. In the glass-roofed spacebetween the two side buildings there is a sculpture garden, and the new museumalso offers teaching facilities, workshops, photo labs and photo workshops.

The mainbuilding houses the foyer and exhibition spaces, with the foyer serving as theconnecting point for the museum’s activities. The exhibition spaces areorganised with the temporary exhibitions on the ground floor, to allow rapidchanges and access to the outdoors, while the permanent exhibitions are on thefirst floor, and the darker graphic art rooms are located in the attic.

In orderto ensure sufficient wall space to hang the artworks, new interior partitionshave been established which cover every second window aperture in the mainbuilding’s facades. In front of the other windows are matt glass panels todiffuse the incoming daylight.

Museumextension

The laterVendsyssel Museumextension is placed one level below ground in the western part of the museumcourtyard, and consists of a clean and simple exhibition space housing a newknowledge centre for one of Denmark’smost important 20th-century painters, Niels Larsen Stevns. The artist has fromthe beginning had a prominent place in the collections of the museum, whichcontain art relating to the Vendsyssel area.

Thedesign of the new centre is deliberately subordinate and architecturallysensitive, by creating the extension to the very rigorous, aesthetic andauthentic museum building as an underground addition. Access to the newexhibition space is via a glass prism in the courtyard, with direct access tothe existing exhibition rooms on the ground floor. The glass prism andelongated skylight stretching along one side of the new exhibition space is akey element, drawing light into the space and giving a sense of space and skyabove. These elements also create a natural connection between the extensionand the existing museum.
新中心——扩建部分被特意设计成处于从属地位，并具有建筑上的敏感性，并通过对这个非常严谨的、充满艺术的和真正的博物馆建筑进行地下的扩建而实现。通过院子里的一个玻璃棱柱可以到达新展览区，还可以直达位于基层的展览区。玻璃棱柱和沿着新展览区的一边而延伸的天灯是一个关键因素，它不但把光线引入博物馆的空间内，还给人头顶天空的空间感。这些元素在图书馆的扩建部分和现有建筑之间创造了自然的连接。
