The design for this house cum dance studio comprises two double-storey pavilions separated by an outdoor performance terrace that accommodates parking underneath. Unlike a beach house on the edge of the sand, this was to be a sleek, hard edged-glass box glorifying its elevated location.
The upper level is transparent to take advantage ol the view. I he lower slore houses a ballet studio and is more protective of the younger dancers, whilst still taking advantage of views to the north.
The site is in a new residential development area on an east-facing slope overlooking the extensive coastline and the ocean. The architects positioned
the house to maximise the views of the Gold Coast, but also to capture views of the surrounding hills of the Gold Coast hinterland. The landscape provides a spectacular setting overlooking the ocean, with sunsets in the hills behind.
The building has been sited in a cutting that gives people with disability access to both levels, and minimises the impact on views for the neighbour behind. The flat roof allows the neighbours to see right over the top of the roof, and rigbt through the house.
