AB Studio Transforms a Modest Cottage into an Eco-Friendly Multi Generational Home

AB工作室将这座20世纪20年代的、位于圣巴巴拉的村舍改造成一座可满足多代人共住的别墅。客户为画廊老板，他期望拥有一个清新、激发灵感的别墅，并有足够的自然光线以便欣赏艺术作品。结合现代主义风格与可持续发展理念，设计团队采用了可再生材料和被动式的设计手法。
为了体现现代主义风格及生态友好的环保理念，设计团队对别墅的各个方向加以延伸。原建筑面积为900平方英尺，被改建成主客厅，楼上是卧室和书房。而新建的部分可布置客户父母、孩子以及未来的孙子的房间，为每一个家庭成员提供足够的私人空间，以及5000平方英尺的公共活动交流区。窗户、天窗和阳台将室内外连接在一起，同时形成空间延伸的错觉。
为了环保，设计团队采用了可回收的建筑材料，以及被动加热冷却系统，以控制室内气候。自然采光也有助于降低能源，节约成本，并提供自然通风。装修是现代主义风格，为客户一家人提供舒适而保护隐私的家庭空间。

AB Design Studio has transformed a modest 1920’s cottage in Santa Barbara into a sprawling multi-generational home. Owned by a gallery owner, the Modern Cottage boasts a fresh, inspired design with plenty of natural light for viewing art. Meshing modernism with sustainability, the design team used recycled materials and passive design to ensure that their gorgeous renovation maintains its gentle footprint.
Asked to create a design reflecting modernism with an eco-friendly approach, AB extended the home in various directions, incorporating rectilinear volumes and elevated outdoor spaces. With a starting space of just 900 square feet, the original home was transformed into the main living area, with additional bedrooms and studies added above and around it. The new expansion is now large enough to accommodate the client’s parents, children and future grand children, creating both private spaces for each member of the family, and open areas for social gatherings on the 5,000 square foot lot. Ample windows, skylights, and balconies connect the interior to the outside, while giving the illusion of more space.
To make the renovation eco-friendly, AB used post-consumer recycled refrigerant panels along with passive heating and cooling systems to help make climate control both affordable and manageable. Natural lighting also helps to cut down on energy costs, as does natural cross ventilation.The final renovation is a feat of modernity, which can grow along with the client and her family, offering comfort and privacy under one roof.
