Developed by a nonprofit organization that is the largest provider of affordable and workforce housing in Westchester County NY, it consists of a three-story, 28-unit workforce family development including a cellar, community room, laundry facility, green roof and parking. This new structure replaces three existing buildings in the site which were demolished, including a distressed motel that had been used as a homeless shelter. In order to make the project feasible, a rezoning of the site was required with the Town of Greenburg and several variances had to be granted by the Planning Board. Multiple contentious public hearings were held with strong community opposition to affordable housing by the neighbors. Despite fierce initial community resistance to the project, demand for its units far exceeded supply: 450 applications were filed for 28 available units, which range from studios to two-bedrooms for low-income individuals and families.
