玻璃屋顶的设置在此建筑中起到双重功能：采光、采暖”。

室内的聚碳酸酯板对直射阳光进行漫反射间接起到照明的作用，建筑本身的层高保证了室内的自然采光以及减少不必需的天窗。此外，结构上装有一个开口，让空气流动在每个平面，即使在无风的日子。在第一层的开口在室内形成自然通风通道。在冬季供暖时通过类似的过程，虽然在反向——把积聚在天窗空间的热能采用循环风扇吸至底层。

此外，钢框木结构本身提供额外的保温。更新的办公室仓库有100年历史的结构，最大限度地提高了现场资源和通过采用简单的架构，建造了具有安全、节能以及富有美感的建筑。

japanese firm KIZ architects has created an office for a gas company that uses the principals of aperture and site orientation to create abuilding-as-solar-circuit. the firm stated that a rooftop ribbon of glazing serve the dual purpose of 'feeling the blessing of the sun' whilecreating all-day soft, diffused light throughout the interior. polycarbonate panels work with the clerestory in such a way that storey specific lighting is rendered unnecessary. additionally, the structure is fitted with a hatch that allows the movement of air throughout each level,even on a windless day. openings on the first floor create a suction that naturally ventilates interiors. heating during the winter occurs bya similar principal, albeit in reverse-- heat accumulates in the upper clerestory space and is moved by a network of circulating fans.

additionally, the steel frame is clad in wood to provide extra insulation. informed by the 100-year old structure of the existing office ware house, the update maximizes the onsite resources and beautifully employs simple architectonics to create an architecture that isat once responsible and aesthetically sensitive
