最新的消息，来自纽约的diller scofidio + renfro事务所为hirshhorn博物馆的充气扩建部分的建造计划取消。这个名为“泡泡”的设计原计划是为艺术文化活动提供场所。hirshhorn博物馆馆长richard koshalek退休后这个项目就紧跟着取消了。据说该项目的取消是源于缺少hirshhorn博物馆管理层的支持，建造所花费的资金难以保障，充气建筑的可行性计划也并不充分。不算造价的变化因素，该项目也要花费1250万美元和2年的施工周期。 目前只有780万美元的募资，包括来自纽约市长布隆伯格的100万美元。

diller scofidio + renfro事务所负责该项目的方案设计，richard kohsalek希望在原有建筑上建造一个145英尺高的充气大厅。这个巨大的半透明泡泡将从原有建筑的中庭中冒出来，好像要把整个建筑一起带上天空。利用大量的钢索连接，气球状的结构的稳定性通过包围整个内部雕塑的巨大水管来平衡。这些钢索沿着博物馆的核心部位将整个气泡环绕数圈。

we have our december 12， 2009 article to reflect the recent announcement that the smithsonian will not proceed with the construction of the hirshhorn museum's seasonal inflatable extension， designed by new york studiodiller scofidio + renfro. colloquially known as 'the bubble，' the structure was supposed to reframe the plaza and create a venue for two months of programming devoted to art and culture. the project was nixed on the heels of the resignation of hirshhorn director richard koshalek. reportedly， the decision to suspend the project was made due to a lack of support from the museum's board and financial uncertainty regarding the fabrication of the bubble as well as a lack of viable plan for the operation of the inflatable building. construction and a two year installation were set to cost the museum 12.5 million USD-- a price tag that did not factor in the variable costs of planning and design. thus far 7.8 million USD can been raised or committed， including a 1 million USD commitment from new york mayor michael bloomberg.
diller scofidio + renfro is responsible for the design proposal of a 145 foot tall inflatable meeting hall which richard kohsalek， the director of the hirshhorn museum and sculpture garden， plans to erect at the cultural institution. the large translucent fabric 'bubble' will swell out of the top the museum's internal court yard， creating an air of lightness， making the building seem as if it were ready to float upwards into the sky.the balloon-like form will be stabilized by a gigantic tube of water， encircling the interior structure. a series of large steel cables tethered to the inner tube on one end and the roof-level truss at the other end， will provide structural support to hold it in place. these cables will wrap around several times pushing the structure through the core of the museum.
