the palestinian museum by dublin firm heneghan peng architects is set to be architecture that behaves like history, narrating the story of a city that is at once embedded in the cultural riches of the past and a hopeful marker of modern palestine. embedded in the rolling hills of birzeit, palestine, the design expresses a landscape well worn by culture, environment, commerce and intervention. the architectonic masses draw directly from a tradition of cascading terraces; the site is formed through a series of moumental steps created by field stone walls which recall the agricultural terraces of the area. the theme of the landscape, from the cultural to the native terrain, unfolds across the terraces with the more habitable and occupiable volumes closest to the building, the plant life changes as one moves down the terraces to the west. the aim of the museum is to act as a communicator and preserver of the tangible and intangible culture of modern palestine and its people。
