the design of these landmark high-rise towers 'northstar xin he delta' in changsha， china， by international firm jerde partnership ensures that every unit has a view of the river and the waterfront. symbolically influenced by sails on the water’s horizon， the interaction of carefully planned programmatic components within a holistic environment creates a compelling new paradigm for urban life. an organic， rhythmic flow to the new development is formed by connecting the built and surrounding natural elements. the sweeping residential towers and hotel are set above a lush rooftop park along the riverfront. the design is based on the themed elements of water， gardens and the city transforming a typical chinese housing block into an icon for the city. outdoor balconies and garden terraces overlook the public activity and park areas below to complete the composition of urban living， while creating visual connections and integration to the larger communal district. beneath the landmark towers sits the integrated leisure center and vibrant waterfront public realm. active amenities include landscaped rooftop planes， a new public park space and indoor/outdoor retail & entertainment functions to create the complete community. the towers’ unique single loaded ‘through units’ extend from front to back to maximize views and provide vital natural light on both sides， as opposed to standard corridor tower layouts. units range in size and layout， but consistently provide increased living and entertainment space through an open plan that enhances interaction and visibility. the sleek and contemporary residential towers and organic public spaces highlight the integrated mixed-use district that will provide the first ever western-style living in changsha， china. the project is due to be completed in 2014.
