zaha hadid architects‘ contribution to cathedral group‘s ‘a dolls’ house’ fundraiser–to support KIDS, a UK charity that serves disabled children, young people and their families–has sold for £14,000.
the design of the 750 x 750 x 200mm compact form made from wood and perspex was influenced by the firm’s 2007 commission for the german design council, in which zaha hadid explored new concepts and spaces for living expressed in the form of the ‘ideal house pavilion’
the miniature dwelling has been conceived as a series of six interlocking elements
, serving as a puzzle which can be reconfigured into an endless variety of compositions / living quarters–each of the individual components indicative of a room, that when stacked together, form a unified home. when assembled, the design features a continuous void that creates communal areas / courtyards shared by every element, thus defining circulation between the ever-changing programs. with endless possibilities of experimentation and arrangement–the pieces can also be rotated to match their shapes found within the garden of the dolls’ house–the project encourages an ongoing evaluation of architectural composition and form.
