作品介绍:My thesisresearch on the physicality and the materiality of silicone to use as thearchitectural building module, with the ultimate goal to build a kineticpneumatic structure, which response to the historical background of inflatablearchitecture emerged in the 1960s, and investigate the development ofcontrolling the inflatable structure by programming in the innovation andtechnology societv nowadays. The later part of the thesis will also discuss thefurther application of silicon to different purposes in architectural project. In the1960s, one of the French avant-garde architect groups was established - theUtopie group. The formation of the group had close relationship with therise/influence of Situationist International (SD after WWII with the idea of anti-capitalist,and with the strand of libertarian Marxism which spread in the Europe. On theother hand, Utopie's works never got built as they were neither compromised by51 or impractical to build with the choice of material. In thisproject, instead of investigate the failure of Utopie group to actualise theplan, I would focus on how to bring their idea of introducingpneumaticarchitecture into daily life by using alternative material, silicone, which hasa characteristic property of self-healing. Further-more, Iwould also study the computationalize method to control the inflation in orderto alter the silicone form. I would conclude the thesis afterimplementation of the building structure, firstly, how the modern technologywith control of silicon and air can give a new form to architectural building;Secondly, how this type of kinetic pneumatic architecture renew people'sexperience of perceiving the relation with space.

作品介绍:In HongKong, living spaces have been alienated as a product in which the ontology ofspace is linked with luxury and social identity. This thesis explores analternative solution to living in Hong Kong derived from a pure spatial elementthat is detached from this dynamic and that reactswith the daily scenarios and situations of everyday life.Thethesis will first deploy simple spatial modules to test inhabitation throughvarious scenarios. Using analysis and working with modernist and contemporaryprecedents" Barba by MVRDV", the "Nakagin Capsule Tower by KishoKurokawa" and "Walking City bl Ron Herron"—small, medium and large scale projects respectively, the thesis first identifies anddevelops strategies for the liberation of unused space, thus revealing thepossibility of adaptive housing. The project explores a delimited neighborhoodin Causeway Bay as test site, its social, economic and spatial complexityleading to different narratives of space. Fictional individual inhabitants helpto identify spatial requirements.Thesecharacters include a new generation of Hong Kongers who struggle to find spacesfor single living and cannot afford traditional flats due totack of savings or financial support from their family.Combinationsof site and inhabitant create a series of scenarios that lead to theexperimental ideas for today's Hong Kong. Rather than limiting architecture tomerely technology and style, this thesis explores the experiential dimension ofarchitecture, the measurement of daily life and living culture.

作品介绍:
Urban andarchitectural decay in Hong Kong raise questions about the control andutilisation of urban voids and shrunken industries.Whenthese vast stretches of landscapes are being disregarded, ironically, thegovernment is reclaiming more landfill Sites as they will be saturatedin Just a few years. 'There is no magic wand to create land out of nothing inHong Kong', said Environment Minister. Slow uptake on theincreasing despondency towards waste infrastructure, Hong Kong is struggled todigest the uncontrolled growth of waste.Thisthesis is a reflection that learns from transformative power of nature andabstracts them as processes of inventions- to embrace decay as a newway of creating ecological landscapes with biodegradable waste and so itbecomes a tool instead of a threat. The degradefield and livingdevices enable us to manipulate decay for bringing back positive impacts tosociety and to confront the unbearable revulsion; establish dialogues betweencitizens and derelict material they produced, question the unconsciousness andfundamentally reshape the way we perceive them.

作品介绍:Thethesis explores the design of play spaces that recognize the perspective ofchildren andallowsthem to create Individualized spaces within the designed framework. It aims toempower children to become co-creators in the city.Childrenare marginalized in an adult-centric society. Playgrounds are spaces designatedfor children designed according to adults considerations. They delineate anInvisible boundary between children's spaces and the rest of the environment. This is largely based on society's opinion that children are less capable ascreators of their space. This has also undermined the differences between achild's and an adult's understanding of and interactions with theirenvironments.Thethesis proposes a series of play spaces in a Sham Shul PO, a highly urbanizeddistrict. They engage children to construct their spaces whileaccommodatingadults and elderly in the neighbourhood. It seeks to challenge the boundariesand tensions between the territories of child andadult.

作品介绍:"Weare living in an age of obsolescence." -Abramson, Daniel M.Architecturehas no difference from other artificial products, it just lasts longer. Whentime comes, it will collapse. Every product has itsOwnpurpose and expiry date. Architect designs building with a given program. Aresidential building is designed "residentially" and expected to lastforever.Traditionally, time or time frame is neglected in architecture design. Architect doesn'tdesign what will happen after 100 years or what happen if the building stopsoperating after 20 years. Architectural design assumes the building is going tolast an eternity with the same program. I think time and multi-program shouldtake an important place in architectural design.Thisthesis is going to test this idea through transforming an abandoned schoolbuilding In Hong Kong. By taking time and multi-program into thearchitectural design is aiming to reduce the appear of obsolete buildings.

设计说明:
Thisthesis explores the issues of the future situation and development of the HongKong-Shen Zhen borderline after 1st July 2047.From1898, a physical and psychological border-line divided a city into Hong Kongand Shenzhen. One of the roles of the boundary is to maintain two distinctterritories. They have different political, social, economic and culturalbackgrounds. They haveindependent future planning and development. The backgrounds and states formtheir own superiority and encourage them to developtheir interdependent cooperation.Since thepolitical change in 1997, Hong Kong and Shenzhen are under the 'one country, two system'. They started to plan the cities together but stilldevelop individually. The borderline becomes a barrier to obstruct them.Byassuming the 'one country, two system' will be abolished after 2047, They Willbe under one system which is combined with their current systems.Thisthesis generates an proposal and redefines the functions and roles of theborderline and the border through the fusion before 2047.

香港:超自然 - 自然就是建筑    HongKong: Hypernature - Nature is Architecture    by YaoZong Xi Hugh

设计说明:
"Chinais known for its monumental building projects but perhaps the most ambitious ofall is under way in Shaanxi province, where 700mountainsare being flattened in order to generate more buildable land. The astonishingplan transfers untold volumes of earth into a joining valleys, thus creating155 square miles of flat space upon which a new super-city will beconstructed."GregoryBaskin, June 8, 2014, Guardian There is no more nature, we have only hypernature, a quasi-religion.Nowadays,the nature is problematic to simply define it as an artifact or consumableproduct. This thesis questions architecture's positioning of therelation between man and nature in city: from nature as an object condition toplace as culture and identity. It considers these relationships in the contextof contemporary Hong Kong, a City where financial and property oriented hascontinuous land consumption, constructed and deconstructed. The thesis focuseson exploring the anonymous plants in the decaying areas, its situated spatialpatterns, interrelation with human, and architecture host, the wall. Finally, based on the hypothetical scenario of maximized land use of Hon Kong, thisthesis asks how architecture can be a device to create a next nature that is are-imagining of the culture and environment of Hong Kong. The demolishedKowloon Walled City is selected for instrumentalizing architecture toreinterpret nature of Hong Kong.

机场:机场作为公园景观    Airpark:Airport as Inhabited Parkscape    by ChungKit Kwan Kate

设计说明:Thethesis questions the current trend of perpetual expansion of the airport corefootprint as an environmentally sustainable model. Airportshouldnot be "too big (nor) too small", and that their performance dependson their "elasticity", rather than their "size".It aimsto reconcile the future travelling infra- structure and its environmentalimpact. This thesis speculates on the alternative use of the 3rd runwayreclaimed site into an inhabitable landscape. The HKIAhas been undergoing perpetual expansion barely 3 years into service. Startingwith the construction of Terminal 2 in 2001 ; followed by North SatelliteConcourse and Skypier completed in 2010; land reclamation for the addition of3rd Runwav kicked off in 2016. How longwould it take before the need of the 4th Runway arises?Thethesis challenges the necessity of having the 3rd runway, and to a more radicalextent, perhaps the 2nd runway would not be needed with the raise of ChinaInternational air traffic along with alternative transportation such as the XRLand HMZB.Theairport of the future should not go big, but go elastic: the airport core shallmaintain its current footprint, and tap into the engineering efficiency of HZMBand XRL network. Since the 3rd runway reclamation is already underway, thethesis takes the opportunity to propose alternative use of the Site foraccommodating speculated resilience of the air flight market.

设计说明:
Publictoilet has always been regarded as only a necessary element in the design ofpublic area. They are classified as somewhere dirty or even associated withdelinquency by the public. Nevertheless, public toilet not only plays animportant role to our communities in Hong Kong, but also has its own historicalvalues. It represents the development of democracy and civilization of HongKong and allows people to get out of the house, stay out longer and experiencebetter amenity support in the public space. However, the design of public toilet has become too standard and lack of engaging relationship with the community context. Therefore, this thesisreview the role of a public toilet in the typical communities in Hong Kong inorder to rethink the design of public toilet as a sustainable prefabricatedsystem, which focuses only sites underneath the flyover and its surroundingresidue space in order to explore thepossibility of the public toilet to be acatalyst for the community activities and events.

从标准化到适应性生活重新定义1980年代的中国住宅综合体    FromStandard Block to Adaptive Living Re-defining the 1980's Chinese ResidentialCompound     by WangYaai Iris

设计说明:
Duringthe year of 1950 to 1 980, China had provided a huge number of standardresidential compounds as national welfare, which have been still occupied morethan 60% of citizens currently. This China's 1980's mass-produced urbanresidential fabrics has become obsolete due to the drastic changes in theChinese social structure and fast urbanization. The thesis is aimed to reformthe existing urban fabrics in response to the social transformation, includingpopulation composition, the use of public space and infrastructures, and theneed of interaction among all groups of citizens. By taking the up-coming agingshifts as an opportunity, this thesis will propose a new urban structure thatallowsforchanges, adaptability and customization so that the monotonous urban fabricscan be redefined to be a social sustainable community.

铁路小径 - “少有人走的路”    Rail-trail-"The Road Less Travelled"    by MA CHANG LING
dcf1d50ee01d0c3467d13eebfecd3ef4.jpg
设计说明:Thethesis explores the possibility of providing high-speed connection in ruralarea of China while maintaining its attachment to the local settlements. It is proposing an alternative or an intermediate between the dichotomy of openand closed road systems in order to open up the high-speed network from theenclosed condition. It attempts to challenge the current mismatch of interestbetween the state policy and the locallife when it comes to the construction of transportation infrastructure inmodern China. The transportation network of China has expanded unprecedentedlysince the 20th century, exceeding 4.24 million km of roads and 1 21 ,OOO km ofran in 2013, only second to the United States. The country's 2030 Road MasterPlan is anticipating 5.8 million km of total road net-work including 400,000kmof national highways, 180,000km of expressways and 274,000 km of railway. Yet,the higher speed road networks including the express highways and railways inChina are mainly connecting the major cities, but not aiming at replacing theold but still busy rural roads. Roads connecting Tibet and Han-Chinese inYunnan are particularly looked into in this thesis. Due to the complexgeographical conditions, they are always built for strategic purpose trading Inthe past, military in the last century, economical and tourism in the latest. The purpose has been increasingly shifted towards aligning state policy in economicdevelopment and homogenization, hence minimizing the role of the newly-builtroads in terms of connecting local communities, which is of a huge variety inethnicity hence the way of living, ang facilitating their dally chores. Thethesis aims at mediating this condition by interplaying the open and theenclosed road systems, through considering the means of entry into the enclosedsystem, and connections between multiple road systems as logisticredistribution depots for users of a range of speeds, envisages a share ofrural life within the high-speed network.
